Career Options after 10th Class | Career Planning

Does this question on best Career Options after 10th bother you now ? If yes then I must admit its a remarkable thought process that you have and I sincerely admire that. Congratulations as you are on the right track. Experts suggest that as per research studies, most of the individuals who have done well in life have always started early in terms of searching various career options and weighing the alternatives and their advantages. Before you enter the 10 + 2 stage, questions such as what after 10th will help you becoming extra vigilant and you may like to consider which syllabus provides wider options. At this stage of life it is very important to realise that we study or learn a new skill to improve As you are aware, there are three kinds of Secondary Boards in the school and namely, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (ICSE) and the State Boards, each having its own syllabus. While the CBSE and ICSE syllabuses permit combining biology and mathematics, not all the State Boards provide similar opportunity. For example, the Andhra Pradesh Board for Intermediate Education (equivalent to Higher Secondary Board) does not. It limits your option, because at this stage itself you will have to decide whether you want to join the engineering college or medical and agricultural colleges. However, as the number of CBSE and ICSE affiliated schools in States is small, you may have to opt for the State Board syllabus.

Once your class 10th exams are over you must be looking forward to Career guidance after 10th

Class 10th is over, now what? Students get confused what to do after 10th class? What subjects/course stream they should select after 10th for better career options? We all know that the ultimate goal is to get a good and satisfactory job with high salary package. Many students as well as parents today are perplexed with this question. But a little thinking and careful planning can definitely do wonders to your career. Little realising what could be the detrimental consequences, a lot of students take up a chosen stream under duress especially when it is parental who feel a particular stream will open doors in terms of career options.

9th & 10th class is the first step where a student should start thinking about their career options and future goals. Basically, the moment you enter 10th standard, you start analyzing the subject you wish to take up in class 11th. The preparation begins with self-analysis. While the opinion of your parents, teachers, friends and other social groups are important but it should not be the only/dominant factor. What stream they should choose also depends on this. So if you think to be a doctor in future then you must choose science stream after 10th and should also give a special consideration to it. Be careful and choose the only stream that could help you in achieving your goals depending on the career guidance after 10th, your progress in life accelerates. You should in fact take advice from your parents, elders, teachers and also should meet with the people who already working in the same area. An ideal thing to do is to consult your teachers, relatives and guardians and preferably ask to person who has knowledge about the career section growing the most or professional Career Counsellors provide you information on your chosen career options after 10th. Today, options are not limited to science, maths and arts. There are vast career opportunities and various streams are available to choose.

Before you embark upon planning your career you may have to consider two issues:

  • Do you need an immediate job because of some adverse family circumstances?
  • Is your family financially sound enough to pay for your professional education?

If you need a job, say after you complete the secondary stage, but still want to pursue higher education, you may like to take up a suitable course through distance learning mode. There are now many options available. You can study according to your own pace and convenience. You can even study both the secondary (Class 10) and higher secondary (10 + 2) courses through the distance-learning mode.

For second issue, the stark reality is that it is becoming increasingly difficult for many middle class families to meet the spiralling cost of professional education. Scholarships, free ships and other financial supports are scarce. You may be aware that in professional colleges there are two categories of seats “free seats” and “payment seats”.

Since the tuition fees for "free seats" are highly subsidised, you pay much less compared to those for “payment seats”. Generally, “free seats” are allotted to students on the basis of the performance at the entrance tests. You will, therefore, have to strive very hard if you want to get a “free seat” in professional colleges. If your family is unable to bear the cost of “elite” professional courses, you may choose a professional course, which also promises a reasonably good career at an affordable cost. It is prudent to cut your coat according to the available cloth. However, the financial consideration alone need not determine this option. There are other good reasons too for seeking a career in these professions. This option should also be considered if you cannot get through entrance tests for professional courses.

If you want to look at civil services as career options then what course steam should you choose? There are few things to consider, first is your interest, second thing is your strength, third is your weakness and the last is the easiness. Normally it has been seen those who prepare for IAS, IPS, IFS and other civil services chose history, public administration and political science subjects. So after 10th or 9th class you should choose arts if you want to prepare for Civil services. Future plans are very important and should keep in mind before selecting your stream. You can also prepare Civil services with other steams like commerce and science by choosing your favourite two subjects but these are the favourite and recommended ones.

And also, if you like pursuing a particular sport and serious to make a career in it then do not feel shy or awkward about it and pursue your studies along with sports. If you have a penchant for music or acting or modelling then you can choose subjects that may help you in pursuing these careers after your 12th. If you wish to do professional courses such as engineering, then taking the JEE Mains is one of the most important steps to get into colleges of national and international repute such as, the IITs, DCE, BITS, VIT and most importantly the NITs are the best of options available to a candidate. Similarly for the medical aspirants or MBBS aspirants there are options such as AIIMS, AFMC and of course the AIPMT which can be taken for entry into the best of medical schools in the country, after your class 12th, then you can start preparing right away. You can take professional help but remember there is no substitute to self study and ofcourse backed up with the right amount of career guidance after 10th which will help you explore the career options after 10th.
